Since 2021, I’ve been on a journey to disfigure Web3. At that time, the market value of Bitcoin broke through a trillion dollars, NFT art auction prices hit record highs, the DAO concept became a hot topic, and Web3 seemed to be a blue ocean full of infinite possibilities. As a person in the VC industry, I watched this emerging field with passion, as if I saw the dawn of the next Internet era.

At first, I was full of admiration for Web3. The soaring prices of mainstream cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether showed me an unprecedented investment opportunity. I envisioned that Web3 could revolutionise the way people live and bring about a new world that is more decentralised, transparent and fair. I witnessed countless entrepreneurs pouring into the Web3 space with dreams of changing the world and hoping to realise various innovative applications through blockchain technology.

However, as time passed, I gradually calmed down from the emotion of looking up to Web3. I began to look at the field from a more level-headed perspective and found that it was not as perfect as I had imagined. On the one hand, there is a growing speculative atmosphere in the Web3 space, and many people see cryptocurrency as a tool for short-term profit, ignoring the technical value and social significance behind it. On the other hand, the practical application scenarios of Web3 are still limited, and many projects just stay in the conceptual stage, lacking real on-the-ground applications.

After experiencing a series of industry events, I have become more deeply aware of the limitations and challenges of Web3.2022, events such as the explosion of Terra public chain, the bankruptcy protection filing of Three Arrows Capital, and the misappropriation of funds scandal of FTX Exchange have brought a huge impact to the Web3 industry. These events made me realise that Web3 is not a completely decentralised, safe and secure space, and that there are many risks and challenges involved.

However, despite the many problems and challenges of Web3, I still hold some confidence in it. I believe that Web3 is a field with great potential, and it promises to bring about many innovations and changes in the future. However, we need to look at Web3 in a more rational and objective manner, and avoid blindly following the trend and speculative behaviour.

In the journey to dispel the charm of Web3, I gradually realised the importance of MEME culture, which is not only a direct expression of Web3’s original spiritual core, but also reflects people’s pursuit of decentralisation, freedom, innovation and other values. Through participating in the dissemination and discussion of MEME culture, I have gained a deeper understanding of the spiritual core and values of Web3.

At the same time, I also realised that it is not easy to establish a foothold in the Web3 field. In this field, we need to have solid technical skills and keen market insights in order to seize opportunities and meet challenges. In addition, we need to work together with like-minded people to promote the development and adoption of Web3.

Therefore, my suggestion is that to gain a foothold in the Web3 space we need to avoid the coin speculation mentality and pursue stable returns. We can obtain stable returns through arbitrage and quantitative strategies, and long-term holding of mainstream coins. At the same time, we need to maintain our enthusiasm and confidence in Web3, actively participate in it and contribute to its development.

Looking back on my experience in the past few years, I deeply feel the charm and challenges of the Web3 field. From looking up to looking down, my view of Web3 has shifted. However, I believe that as long as we look at Web3 with a more rational and objective attitude and contribute to its development, this field will definitely usher in a brighter future.
